Found Poem

It was a beautiful ceremony
Music, Readings, Tears
I thought at the time
I didn’t quite fit
Being there in the moment between
Dream and reality
Our intentions were at odds
I knew at the time I loved him,
Although it’s fair to say that
I didn’t really know him
Anymore.

Sitting, drifting along
In the strange eddies of sound
That drag me away from thought
I find my way back to him
I follow him back to the
Last words that were spoken
Just to see if I missed something
And then he was gone
He was not someone to follow anymore.

So back to now,
Where I can’t tell from the way the strangers are talking
Whether they’re mocking him
Or worse
Or whether they love him like crazy
But feel the need to perform.

I hear the monotony of their words
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry
Words are thin between my fingers
Like the lace
Covering his face
In that wooden box.

So I say
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry
Please just think to when I followed you
Back to those last words,
When you said to me
Now here we are,
Running around together again.
