Living On the Line

The future can snatch you with its claws.

Its hollow unknown surrounds you, taunts you

Laughing at your life path.

College, jobs, career, success,

The championship game of life.

The moments that can define you forever.

The past cradles your memories

Resting inside of you, comforting you.

Assuring you, you were always okay.

Family, friends, wins, losses,

It’s the blue puck of childhood hockey,

Half of what you face now.

Now is the time to control,

The half knowing, kind of uncertain,

Partially terrifying, partly encouraging.

The next shift won’t define the game.

It’s the line we all toddle across.

The line on which we thrive.
