The Cottage

I enjoy the nights
Spent around the fire
As we reminisce about the day’s events

Our annual climb
To the top of a nearby mountain
Walking through paths beaten by the feet of hikers

Looking over the top
We can see for miles over beautiful lakes and pine trees
A picture perfect scene of blue and green

We spend hours swimming
In the calm, clear lake
The cold water cooling us on a hot summer’s day

The hours we spend fishing
Are times that are usually forgotten
But are also the times that I cherish most

The meals are never gourmet
They are simple and cooked over propane grills
Yet everything taste delicious,

Because the energy we spent throughout the day
Leaves us tired and hungry
Making every meal seem like it came from a world-class chef

The boat drive back to the main dock is always depressing
And as the motorboat putters away
The cottage becomes smaller
And I think about the knew memories that I have acquired

After we leave it sits there in silence
Waiting for the next group of people to come
Ready to give another family a week of great memories
