Connor Murray

Mom

Each and every morning
I woke up to your affectionate voice
Singing “You Are My Sunshine.”
I didn’t have a choice.

Angered to be awakened,
I was ignorant though.
Oblivious to everything,
Including how far love could go.

Preserving my happiness
And reading to me at night
Was always important to you,
Well worth the sacrifice.

Now that I’ve matured
I am well aware,
All the things you did for me,
All the love you shared.

I wish I could give back
In some form or another,
But is it ever possible
To repay a mother?
