A Life in Flames

The flames are strong,

burning with life.

He is on top of the world,

with everything

to lose.

Years go by,

and many embers go out,

never to be rekindled,

but with the used up time

comes lasting memories.

Through the decades,

the changes were subtle,

though looking back from now,

the year’s toils on him are apparent.

And through this passed time,

the fire’s energetic flames have simmered down

into nothing but a small flicker of light.

The fire is dead.

The last flames struggled to stay alive,

as he battled the inevitable.

And so the loved ones weep,

though their fires

are still burning.

His fire may be gone,

but the ashes remain.
