A Harmless Spring Day

It’s the bane of every horseback rider
Falling off
I had four years of experience
And yet to hit the ground
I was lucky but
My luck was about to run out
It was a harmless spring day
The sun was shining and
It was a great day for a ride
I was riding bareback
(Without a saddle)
I was bouncing around and
All of a sudden I was launched up
Off the horse and landed
On my side
My helmet made a sickening whack
As it hit the ground but
I jumped up surprisingly unharmed
Received a hug from my horseback riding teacher
And laughed relieved to have gotten
My first fall over
And it wasn’t
A big deal
At all!
