Shayna Rubenstein

Dreamsequence

Lying in bed,
Constructing a fort with pillows,
Soft, yet strong,
My blankets are a shield,
Barricaded in,
Comforted, protected,
Asleep.

Off to the woods,
Soil like sand,
The smell of the sea,
In a castle made of candy,
A warrior in a down cover,
Thick, it repels all,
Safe, no harm can be done,
Dream.

In a battle surrounded by ice water,
My armor is lost,
My fort is crumbling,
Right before my eyes,
Falling into the arctic,
My body is numb,
Cold, bitterly cold, afraid,
Nightmare.

On a dry desert island,
Empty, complete desolation,
Nothing to see,
No protection, no security, no warmth,
Open my eyes to see,
Blankets and pillows on the ground,
Safe.
