Alice O.S.

Depth Perception

They lied to us.

The ocean is not blue.

They stole the golden light,

And handed us a map key.

Circles and squares were simple and impolite,

A hasty foundation of scaffolding,

Buckling under the weight of our dreams.

They scraped the ideas not yet grown wild from our young minds

Easy and satisfying.

Laying out the world as they knew,

They trained our eyes blind,

So when we looked at the world through our contrast filter,

There was nothing to show for it.

Fingers strangling markers, pencils, sticks of lead,

And we cried as we tried to find

Our lost dimension.
