Vassilis George

Greece

The sun baked earth
Begging for water
A lone drop of rain
Splashes to the ground
A sense of joy fills the air

Plump red tomatoes
Set out to lie in the sun
Their flesh dries thoroughly
But is graced with the presence
Of sweetness
Only few can manage
This godly transformation

Childhood memories
Of playing soccer
Picking luscious fruit from trees
And beautiful sunsets
Were made here,
in Greece
