Forest O'Donoghue

Snow to Sky

The cold air whips across my face,
I do not care, this is my favorite place.
I look to my side and everything is a blur,
Occasionally catching a glimpse of an animal’s fur.
The view is such a beautiful piece of art,
It sinks in deep and touches my heart.
I pass others gracefully not to disturb their path,
If they fall off course they will tip like a young calf.
I feel invincible, unable to make a mistake,
But a stupid decision is always possible to make.
I see the take off and prepare to fly,
I hit the jump and soar through the sky.
Like a bird gliding down a mountain,
People stop and stare as if I am a palace fountain.
But even the best are never flawless,
BANG! I crash to the ground, that great feeling demolished.
Like a wine glass shattering on the floor,
In slow motion I watch my gloves and helmet soar.
I finally stop rolling and lay there shocked,
The great confidence I had is now being mocked.
