East End

A confusing stretch of concrete
where money does not beautify,
where a morning glory entwined in a
chain link fence surprises.

An unyielding stretch of concrete
falls short of symmetry,
trodden over with rubber soles
and plaid with stroller marks.

A dented stretch of concrete
married to a chain link fence embellished
leaves a gap for a rectangle sign welcoming,
and a metal door that swings out and ushers in.

A complicated stretch of concrete;
rough chain links greet metal door and
tiny children, glorious in the morning rush in -
a morning glory linked to rough chains.
