life cycle

the old language
forgotten
except for a few
who claim they study
ancient languages

the old language
once the language of an empire
now dead and forgotten
in its grave

and the old ones grieve
for their missing language
cursing the new generation
and the new language
that obliterated their old one

the old language
a shadow of its structure
found within the new one
there would be no new language
without the old one
as a foundation

and the old ones grieve for nothing
languages will come and go
a cycle
even the forgotten one
will leave its mark

the new language
still a language of an empire
someday the new generation
will be the old ones
cursing the next new language
missing their old language
