Ocean

I drift off to sleep and soon the sounds of crashing waves
and laughing gulls are all around me
A cool breeze sweeps a strand of hair into my face
as I stare out across the expanse of water
The sand is damp beneath my feet
and the salty spray licks my toes
The beach is deserted
and the ocean stretches as far as my eye can see

I am alone
surrounded by the crashing waves

Soon I am running

Running faster and faster along the seashore
The wind is whipping my face
and a warm mist caresses my feet

I drop to the sand in exhaustion
and lie with my feet at the edge of the waters
My body is filled with warmth
as I stretch out, breathing deeply to calm my beating heart

The waves engulf my feet and slowly move up my legs
as the tide begins its ascent towards the rocks beyond
My feet go numb from the constant icy chill of the waters
but I continue to lie there motionless
Until the waters swallow me
and I am just another wave
Drifting in the wind
